Got this guitar in 2010 from ICW member Ollie/ibanezer_scrooge for a decdent price.
I accidentially ran accross it because I had read that Bob Weir – member of my all time favourite band, the Grateful Dead – had been playing an Ibanez, 2680 exactly this model (and some others later). Google brought me to the eBay listing and I didn’t hesitate to hit the BIN button – and this was the beginning of GAS and meanwhile more than 30 vintage Ibanez guitars.
The 2680 had changed tuners and pickups. Hardware was corrorded but luckily it had no irreversible mods and the overall condition is great. Frets are about 7/10 but no buzzing.
It took about two years to get it back to almost original condition (The Pearloid Velve Tuners were really hard to find) and today it’s one of my favourite players.
One of the most exciting facts about this guitar and what it makes it really UNIQUE is, that it is not just one of many 2680s built.
It is EXACTLY the one shown in the 1978 Ibanez catalog – a “Poster girl” 🙂 . As the wood grain is an unmistakable mark of a guitar, if you compare the grain of this axe to the one shown in the ’78 catalog, it’s obvious, that this page shows exactly this particular guitar.
