In April 2015 ICW member Juha T found this guitar in eBay Germany and posted it on ICW.
The seller was located in Munich. I contacted him (was living about 50 km from Munich at that time) and without me asking for it, he offered me to send me this guitar by DHL – and if I like it, I should pay him an appropriate price.
Was really astonished about this leap of faith, but agreed.
Two days later the guitar arrived and there was no doubt about keeping it. It had changed pickups, two really hot humbuckers (couldn’t identifythe brand) and and an extra hole drilled for a single coil switch for the bridge pickup. But substancially everything ok, no binding rot etc.
About half a year later, I found a matched pair of Super 70 Script Logo Pickups, carefully made one of them splitable – and that’s how the 2671 looks now. The mini switch on the left is an out-of-phase option when the pickup selector is in the middle position.
When I removed the bridge pickup, I saw some Japanese writing at the bottom of the pickup cavity (see pic below). A friendly ICW member from Japan told me, that these letters サンプル in Japanese mean “Sample.”.
So this pre serial 2671 might be one of the first ever produced or even an early and rare prototype model.
But anyway: Plays and sounds great 🙂

Remarkable design and clear evidence of the skills of Japanese luthiers in those years. You can feel the desire to build the best guitars.

Yes, an outstanding guitar both in terms of design and sound.
Used it in one of the latest band rehearsals and I loved it.
